African American History Month Celebration
St. James A.M.E. Church will host an African American History Month Celebration on February 23 - 24, 2013 at 1107 E. Oak St., Denton. The program honors the contributions and achievements of African Americans. On Saturday, February 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a Health Fair offering free medical and vision screenings and dental consultation. The Health Fair will bring health professionals together to educate people about health, prevention, and community resources. It includes nutrition and physical fitness presentation, cooking demonstration, and CPR/First Aid. The history program features speakers on Denton’s first families, poetry, skits, inventors’ exhibit, and poster displays from several schools. This two-day event culminates on Sunday, February 24, from 3-5 p.m., with a Gospel Concert featuring area choirs, soloists and singing groups. African attire welcomed.
