Rayzor real estate steward receives Otis Fowler Award

Philip A. Baker will be the first to acknowledge that it’s not his money or property, but, he has been the guiding light of many significant business activities in Denton.
Phil was named the recipient of the 2018 Otis L. Fowler Award during the chamber’s Annual Membership Banquet.  He is Vice President of the Rayzor Company, primarily in charge of land development and management.
The Otis Fowler award is the Denton Chamber’s highest and most prestigious recognition.  It has been presented at every annual membership banquet for the past 58 years.
Presented by Marty Rivers, the 2017 award recipient, he noted that thanks to Phil’s loyal steward ship of the Rayzor family’s local real estate holdings Western Boulevard has been extended and expanded to West U.S. Highway 380.  This road provided crucial access to Denton’s primary concentration of private employers.
Working with the chamber’s Economic Development Department, Phil’s most recent negotiation resulted in the recently announced $50 million U.S. Cold Storage center.
Other Rayzor family sites have been sold to the 50 acre nine story 360,000 square foot Target Distribution Center which employs 140 people.
The $150 million 77 acre WinCo 800,000 square foot Distribution Center that employs 165 people and an additional 60,000-square-foot truck maintenance center on the property was also made available by the Rayzor family.
The Embassy Suites and Convention Center is located in the 412 acre Rayzor Ranch, with 641,000-square-foot open-air retail, dining, lodging and entertainment destination.
Marty pointed out that through Phil’s efforts, “100s of acres of land have and are being developed; 100s of jobs created and millions of dollars of tax base, has been created that benefits the City, the School District and the County.  He does this quietly, not seeking recognition for himself.”
Congratulations to Phil Baker, the Denton Chamber’s recipient of the 2018 Otis L. Fowler Award.
