Dr. Terry Clower, the Director of the Center for Economic Development and Research at the University of North Texas, will be the featured speaker during the chamber membership luncheon on February 17, 2012 at Fremaux’s. Dr. Clower will discuss the condition of the Denton area economy, as well as state and national trends that may influence local business.
In addition, we will present the 26th Small Business of the Year award. Kim Pollard, owner of Bookkeeper Girl, and chair of the chamber’s Small Business Initiatives, has reviewed and updated the nominee criteria and award guidelines. Nomination forms for potential award recipients for the calendar year ending December 31, 2011 have been distributed to the general membership via Constant Contact.
Nearly 75% of the chamber’s current membership accounts employ less than five full-time employees, corroborating the spirit of this recognition as a testament to the free enterprise system. The 2010 award was presented to Ken Willis, Bob Moses and Jim Engelbrecht, the co-owners of Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream.
Nominations are primarily based on an individual’s business-related accomplishments as of December 31, 2011, and may include a combination of comparable growth indices, innovation, and the ability to overcome adverse circumstances.
Potential nominees should own and/or manage a business in the Denton trade area for no less than 2 years. The differentiating criteria typically includes growth comparisons, facilities expansion or improvements, management techniques, innovative merchandising and/or marketing practices that help set the nominee apart from their competition.
The membership luncheon is being sponsored by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Tickets will be available soon.
