Denton Chamber represented on DC Fly-In
Individuals from the Denton Chamber of Commerce were part of a recent county-wide delegation that travelled to Washington DC.
Monica Glenn, the Denton Chamber’s Government Relations Division officer, fellow board member and United Way CEO Gary Henderson, as well as TWU’s Director of Legislative Affairs, Kevin Cruser represented the Denton Chamber.
The visit was coordinated by the office of Congressman Dr. Michael Burgess. Dr. Burgess has represented the 26th U.S. Congressional District, which includes all of Denton, since 2003.
The primary purpose of the Washington Fly-In is to acquaint key elected decision makers and department officials with the many assets of the county, and heighten the overall image and visibility of the North Texas area.
Attendees heard a variety of speakers, including Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, Chairman of Ways and Means, Congressman Kevin Brady, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson. The trip included other presentations by Congressman Burgess and Chairman of the Rules Committee, Congressman Pete Sessions.
The delegation from Denton, in addition to the scheduled program, made additional advocacy visits to both Texas Senate offices, as well as Congressman Burgess’s office and the office of Veteran’s affairs.
Other participating delegations represented the Flower Mound Chamber, Lewisville Chamber and City of Highland Village.
According to Glenn, “the trip was able to put Denton County in the spotlight for high ranking members of Congress, as well as the HUD and Veterans Affairs Program. The trip occurs bi-annually and the next one will be held in the Spring of 2020.
